Noblesville Chiropractic Treatment Effective for Cervicogenic Headache

We see a lot of folks with headaches in our Noblesville office, and Dr. Dahlager has been able to assist many of them. Actually, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that half of all adults struggle with some sort of headache problem, so this actually isn't shocking. One of the most prevalent sorts of headaches that our patients endure is cervicogenic headache which, luckily, chiropractic adjustments can often help.

Cervicogenic Headaches Explained

A cervicogenic headache is one that stems from an issue in the cervical spine. It could be as a result of a problem with either the spine itself (primarily, the vertebrae, joints, or discs), or it can be triggered by a problem in the muscles and tendons of your neck. This dysfunction in your spine creates compaction or irritation of the spinal nerves, which can result in headache problems.

How do you distinguish if the headache you are going through is a cervicogenic headache? Aside from being given a diagnosis from a healthcare expert, a frequent symptom of cervicogenic headaches is tenderness or discomfort in your neck. This is occasionally coupled with pain in the back of your head or between your shoulder blades.

Chiropractic to the Rescue

Because cervicogenic headaches will not subside until whatever issue is causing them is remedied, it is crucial to get treatment as opposed to just trying to "wait it out." Chiropractic care is an effective approach, and one that provides a great deal of headache pain relief.

In one study reported in Chiropractic & Osteopathy, researchers studied 80 people who had frequent cervicogenic headaches. One-half received chiropractic care and the other half underwent light massage therapy. Each participant was examined 12 and 24 weeks after the treatment and it was discovered that chiropractic provided the best outcomes.

Specifically, this study revealed that chiropractic adjustments gave patients greater pain relief and decreased the frequency of headaches that occurred. What's more, it also minimized the disability that resulted from these painful headaches.
